Baby showers and Nappy Cakes are relatively new to the UK. but are rapidly becoming an innovative and fun way to welcome a new arrival and congratulate the new parents, especially Mum! They have, of course, long been popular in America, Canada, South Africa and New Zealand but have only recently been adopted in Europe. (They were, in part, introduced to us via an episode of Sex in the City a few years ago, where the girls presented a Nappy Cake as a gift at a friends baby shower. ) With the help of the internet, they are now becoming well known here too.

Traditionally, baby showers were thrown about 2 months before baby was due to arrive, a quiet time for Mum and friends to get together, bring gifts and relax before the event. Now, many families prefer to wait until the little one or ones! have arrived and will invite family and friends to celebrate the new arrival with a welcome party.  At either time, Nappy Cakes  have become essential as a stunning and much talked about centrepiece. They can  be opened then, or savoured and enjoyed at leisure over the following weeks or months.

We made our first Nappy Cake for a friend after a fruitless shopping trip to find that "one off", "WOW factor", "practical but adorable" gift. You know the one!!  that you can never find on the high street. 

 This first nappy cake was similar to our "Original New Arrival cake" and contained  items such as booties, clothes, bath toys and hidden treasures for the new Mum to find later. It was brilliantly received and  recommended to others. From this simple, but beautiful cake, Snugglebums was formed . Friends wanted to add items of their own and have different size cakes,  and so our cupcake, 1 Tier cake, 2 Tier & 3 Tier cakes came to be.

 The basis of a Nappy Cake is tiers of nappies, something absolutely every new parent will need but would not expect to get as a gift.! The "cake" itself comes in many sizes, from the adorable cup cake to the three and four tier cakes, so there is something to suit every one. Each layer includes baby essentials, such as clothing, baby bath products and  is wrapped in soft baby cloths, towels or snuggly fleece blankets. The cake is then "decorated"  with contrasting bows, ribbons etc and topped with an adorable "first toy" suitable for newborn babies.  Sounds gorgeous doesn't it? and absolutely everything in our nappy cakes is useful.  They are even presented on a cakeboard which can be used for the christening cake later!

 Over time, and through feedback, we have added "character" cakes to our Nappy Cake range including the "Disney" characters and "Themed" cakes. We often send Nappy Cakes with Dad in mind as they can sometimes get lost in the sea of flowers and cuddly teddies. Our Trains, Planes and Automobiles Nappy Cakes are very popular as are nautical and sporting themes.

All of our Nappy Cakes contain a selection of essential baby products but we have also developed our Bathtime and Bedtime (Lullaby) range which concentrate on including gifts to suit that time. Our Lullaby cakes are gorgeous, and can include massage oil, a book for baby to share, or a calming cd to lull baby to sleep. Our largest includes a musical rocking teddy, it's so cute!.

They are a pleasure to admire and a delight to use, while still remaining attractive. The baskets can still be used in the nursery long after the contents have been enjoyed.
